no thinking

Political correctness - a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

Rev. Rick's Wisdom

Here some observations I’ve made over the years along with some fundamental truths.

  • A prophecy after the fact is pretty much useless, isn’t it? It’s like taking the condom out of your wallet in the third trimester and saying, “Oh, yeah. I knew I had this all along.” (28 December 2005)
  • Maintenance is essential. Without it, everything falls apart. (29 September 2009)
  • Ever think about what you could accomplish if you didn’t know you couldn’t do it? “Knowing” we can’t do something often keeps us from ever making the effort. (22 January 2010)
  • We want our entertainment in full color, on a big screen and in high definition, yet we look at real life in black and white on a very small screen. (13 March 2010)
  • I don’t miss the person I once was but I’m liking the person I’m becoming. I look forward to meeting him. (26 May 2010)
  • Getting out of bed in the morning isn’t so painful now. However, I still dislike the idea. (October 2010, a week after hernia surgery)
  • It is better to go to the snow than for the snow to come to you. Snow has its place but it’s not in my driveway or on the streets where I drive. (12 January 2011)
  • To take offense is a personal choice. One cannot offend without the consent of the offended. (20 January 2011)
  • What were once vices are now fond memories. (22 January 2011)
  • Your religious beliefs should never be imposed upon anyone, including yourself. (7 February 2011)
  • Do we stand by our principles and do what’s right or do we compromise our integrity and make a buck now? It seems like an easy choice to me. (28 March 2011)
  • From the stagnant pool of ignorance, rises the scum of stupidity. (16 June 2011)
  • No religion does not mean atheism but following one’s own spiritual path unbounded by dogma. (11 September 2011)
  • Having no religion does not imply that I must be an atheist. I am simply following my own spiritual path untethered by dogma. I am free to roam the spiritual landscape as I please. (11 September 2011)
  • It doesn’t matter what you believe. What matters is what you do. (28 October 2012)
  • As a conscientious objector, I declare my neutrality in the “war on Christmas”. (21 December 2013)
  • Trying to move in several directions at once is the same as moving in no direction at all. (1 July 2014)
  • Genitals are for fondling, whether your own or those of others. But you should first get the consent of the one whose genitals are being fondled. (26 August 2014)
  • Just because you have the right to express an opinion it does not logically follow that you have an entitlement to it. Entitlements are earned. They have facts and evidence to back them up. You are not entitled to your opinion if you cannot adequately defend it. Without a proper defense your opinion is nothing but a wet fart blown out of your ass. An unsupported opinion is entitled to nothing except whatever ridicule the utterance deserves. Facts stand on their own while an opinion must be constantly supported and defended. (03 September 2014)
  • Repression breeds perversity. (13 September 2014)
  • Suffering may lead to salvation but ending suffering leads to liberation. Liberation is our salvation. (02 January 2015)
  • The problem with gods and deities is that they take on the qualities and the fears of the people who worship them – the good, the bad, and the ugly. Since people manifest the worst elements in the human psyche in their god and they believe their god to be good, then evil becomes good when it is done for the glory of their god. Crimes against humanity are justified when done in the name of their god but are atrocities when carried out by non-believers. (03 January 2015)
  • We usually create our own Hell and should we find that the Gates of Hell are chained and locked, we must realize that we possess the key and that we are free to leave it at any time. (06 January 2015)
  • There was never any confusion, just a dark path illuminated by sparks of passing pleasure, subversive seduction by the darkness within, and decadent self-destruction with unintended but inevitable collateral damage. I felt delusion, pain, vulnerability, self-doubt, and insecurity but never confusion. (05 March 2015)
  • A secret is a terrible burden to bear. It is an anchor chained to your soul and it drags you down into the very depths of suffering, not only you but everyone from whom you keep the secret. (11 March 2015)
  • If your religion prevents you from doing your job, you need to find a new job. If your religion prevents you from doing what’s right, you need to find a new religion. (15 April 2015)
  • There is nothing special about Naked Yoga; it’s just yoga and you just happen to be naked. (26 April 2015)
  • There is no eternal reward nor is there eternal damnation; we have to make the best of what we’ve got in the here and now. Whatever joy we find and whatever suffering we endure, remember that we created it. We make our own Heaven and our own Hell in our own space and our own time. (6 May 2015)
  • Our species has a clear choice. We can either evolve toward enlightenment or de-evolve and face certain extinction by our own hands. (12 May 2015)
  • Conservative governments and societies are usually the most repressive while liberal governments and societies are often the most progressive.  (17 May 2015)
  • Labels are too cumbersome. They usually don’t fit well, weigh you down, and limit your perspective. (26 May 2015)
  • There needs to be more gratuitous nudity on television. Scratch that, there just needs to be more gratuitous nudity. (18 July 2015)
  • Blasphemy and heresy are relative to your point of view and are wholly dependent upon the indefensible belief  you’re attempting to defend. (08 October 2015)
  • It is not necessary to be a Christian to keep Christmas or the spirit of the holiday in your heart. The season does not need a specific reason; it exists independently. So let us each celebrate the season in our own way and endeavor to keep the season in our heart all year long.  (20 December 2015)
  • I’m certain there is order in the universe; it only seems chaotic because we don’t understand how it is. (29 January 2016)
  • I strongly suspect that free will is an illusion maintained by the ego to prevent its own destruction. While I maintain that there is order in the Universe, I don’t subscribe to the idea that there is  a divine plan or that our futures are preordained. Nor do I attribute events to the will of a deity or a supreme being. Our destinies are shaped by the laws of cause and effect combined with circumstances. We do have the ability to influence our destinies to some degree through the choices we make. How much can be attributed to karma or to our own inherent divinity, I cannot say. (29 January 2016)
  • The present moment is all there is and without it the past and the future can never be. (29 January 2016)
  • It is never wrong to introduce a child to Linux. The child will thank you for it later.  (11 March 2016)
  • I’ve observed that most modern technology is, by default, rather annoying and I suspect that it is that way by design. (20 March 2016)
  • Sure, Jesus was a radical and a heretic, but because he died for your sins, you owe him big time and don’t you ever forget it. (20 March 2016)
  • Evangelism was probably one of the worst ideas that mankind has ever conceived and proliferated. (27 March 2016)
  • Surrender is only possible once you have let go of your fear. Only after you’ve renounced your fear and surrendered to grace, can your path to liberation be revealed. (04 April 2016)
  • The government does not, never has, and never will, have our best interests at heart. Those in power have their own agendas and will, without hesitation, sacrifice anyone or anything to achieve them. (30 May 2016)
  • Freedom is not free. We have to work for it and fully participate in it. Freedom is not given to us; we have to earn it and make ourselves worthy enough to have it. (30 May 2016)
  • You have the right as well as the obligation to question all authority. (23 June 2016)
  • Ignorance is the path to the dark side. To quote Yoda, “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” But at the root of all fear is ignorance and it is ignorance that feeds the fear, anger, hate and suffering, creating a perpetual cycle. By overcoming ignorance, its progeny will starve and die off. (23 June 2016)
  • In a free society the right to not be offended does not exist. (24 August 2016)
  • No savior can save everyone. Some people can’t be saved, some don’t want to be saved, and some don’t need to be saved. Ultimately, we are all responsible for our own salvation. (30 August 2016)
  • Good intentions do not cancel out any negative impact that results from your actions. (30 August 2016)
  • A conversation that begins with the phrase “The thing is…” or “We need to talk” never turns out well. (30 August 2016)
  • One man’s blasphemy is another man’s truth. (30 September 2016)
  • Homo sapiens may become the first species on this planet to be directly responsible for their own extinction. (30 September 2016)
  • We can neither stand still nor can we move backward. Either you are moving forward or you are falling behind. There are no other options. (02 October 2016)
  • We cannot return to the past. The past only exists as history; we cannot reclaim it. (02 October 2016)
  • Nobody is superior to anyone else. We are all connected and we are all in this together. (12 November 2016)
  • Christmas spirit transcends religion. (27 November 2016)
  • Faith and belief can only lead you to your path. Only you can walk the path. No one, not even Jesus, can walk it for you. Ultimately, you alone are responsible for your own salvation. (18 December 2016)
  • I would rather burn in Hell with a clear conscience than spend eternity in Heaven regretting that I did nothing but hold onto a belief. (01 January 2017)
  • The very idea of racial superiority is extremely irrational. No race can claim supremacy over another. To believe otherwise is delusional and demonstrates your ignorance of your own humanity. (25 January 2017)
  • A blasphemy is quite often a truth that contradicts a belief. (25 January 2017)
  • “Alternate facts” are nothing more than blatant falsehoods and unsupportable opinions. (25 January 2017)
  • If “Alternate Facts” are actually lies then the “Alt-Right” must actually be wrong. (04 February 2017)
  • We are soldiers in the war on ourselves and we hold ourselves as prisoners of that war. We are the enemy that we seek to destroy.. We are the casualties. (22 February 2016)
  • Any claim of superiority by virtue of race, nationality, ethnicity, wealth, status, or any other arbitrary attribute is not superiority at all. Such claims are born out of fear and ignorance and can only be maintained through oppression and the use of threats and violence. (22 February 2016)
