I have an opportunity next Saturday to get away and relax for a day. I so desperately need a “me” day this month. I really haven’t had one in quite a while. All I need is transportation. Can I borrow the car, son?
The last couple of weeks have brought been potentially life changing for me. At my former doctor’s request, I’ve attended a couple of diabetes awareness classes and now I’m trying to control my carbohydrate intake and I’m pricking my fingers several times a day to monitor my blood glucose levels. The official diagnosis is “pre-diabetic” so I’m being educated and encouraged to take measures to keep that prefix from being removed. With the events of last month and the timing of these classes, I feel that I’ve been given a wake up call and an opportunity to avoid the same fate I recently witnessed. If I have to give up or cut down drastically on many of the foods I enjoy and if I have to prick a finger everyday for the next 30 years or so, then it’s a small price to pay to avoid blindness, dialysis, loss of blood circulation, amputation, and/or a host of other complications. I don’t want to go through that crap; I don’t have her strength.
Saturday Getaway
I’m working on other transportation arrangements for this Saturday so I may not need to borrow the car after all. I’m anxiously anticipating a day of much needed relaxation and de-stressing. I’ll feel quite put out if I have to cancel for any reason.
